All Americans are feeling the effects of rising inflation rates, but people living in Boston, Cambridge, and Newton have the hardest time stretching a dollar, a new study by SmartAsset found.
The Boston metropolitan area requires the third-highest paycheck out of the 25 metropolitan cities including in the SmartAsset study, requiring an after-tax salary of $78,752 for a single person to live comfortably. This figure is considerably higher than the average after-tax salary needed to live comfortably in metro areas, which is calculated at $67,060.

Not everyone who lives alone is lonely, but a new study ranked over 170 American cities to find the cities that have the highest percentage of adults living alone – and Boston made the cut.
With over 38% of its population living alone, Boston was ranked the 30th "loneliest" city in America, the Chamber of Commerce found. This figure is significantly higher than the nationwide average, which shows that 29% of all American households are one-person households.

Repeat COVID-19 infections can be dangerous, even deadly, including for those who have been vaccinated and boosted, according to a brand-new study.
The study by the Washington University School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care system found that "repeat SARS-CoV-2 infections contribute significant additional risk of adverse health conditions in multiple organ systems."

Among the abundance of hyperlocal real estate sites that look to lure customers by rating locations is one that includes Camden, Trenton and Paterson among the 100 most dangerous cities in the United States.
NeighborhoodScout.com uses the violent crime rate per 1,000 residents as its criteria to determine how likely you are to become a victim in each particular city.

Herbert W. Hobler, age 96, died on Aug. 10 at the Stonebridge Retirement Community in Skillman, NJ.
Born in St. Louis, and the son of Atherton W. and Ruth W. Hobler, he grew up in Bronxville, attending kindergarten through the 7th grade with Mary Fitz Randolph whom he later married in March of 1944.
A graduate of the Hill School, he was in the class of 1944 at Princeton and during World War II he served as a B-29 navigator flying missions over Japan.

Navy Chief Cryptologic Technician Shannon M. Kent, 35, who grew up in Pine Plains in Dutchess County, was a sailor assigned to Cryptologic Warfare Activity 66, based at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.

Two cities in Connecticut rank among the top 50 Most Stressed Cities in America, according to a new study by a financial website.
One is in Fairfield County: Bridgeport ranked 33rd.

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Mahwah, Paramus and Wayne each had two postal carriers attacked by dogs last year, the U.S Postal Service announced Monday in its annual roundup. Several Bergen and Passaic county towns had one each.
Of the 6,244 total attacks nationwide -- more than 500 less than in 2016 -- one each occurred in Clifton, East Rutherford, Hackensack, Passaic, Paterson, Ridgewood and South Hackensack and Teaneck, the postal service reported.
The figures were released as part of National Dog Bite Prevention Week (Apr. 8 – 14).

J.C. Penney says it will close eight stores in 2018, resulting in 480 job cuts.
This comes after the department store chain shuttered 140 stores in 2017.
