Three people were hospitalized when a fire destroyed a home early Monday, July 31 in South Jersey, authorities said. The fire at Villanova Court In Sicklerville also caused smoke damage in two adjoining dwellings, displacing a total of eight residents, according to Winslow Township police. Firefighters had a busy Sunday, May 8, in Jersey City, with three different residential fires displacing 20 people, authorities said. Jersey City firefighters were first called to 150 New York Ave. at 1:44 p.m. for a two-alarm fire in a three-story three-family residential structure, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. A child playing with a lighter accidentally set a fire inside the closet of a Maryland home, according to officials. Members of the Salisbury Fire Department were called to help extinguish a fire that broke out in the closet of a Hatings Street home shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 when a child toying around with a lighter.
