Former North Castle Police Chief, Veteran Dies A former police chief from Connecticut who led a department in Northern Westchester is being remembered for his lifetime of public service. Fairfield County resident Fred Gambino, Jr. of Brookfield, the former chief of the North Castle Police Department, died on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the age of 86, the department announced on Monday, Dec. 11.  Born in White Plains in 1937, Gambino graduated from White Plains High School before going on to serve in the Marine Corps.  After this, he then began a long career in law enforcement by joining the New York State Police. Lavallette Police Had To Use Personal Cell Phones; Lacked Tasers, Radar, Body Armor: Prosecutor A probe by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office found that the Lavallette Police Department did incomplete background checks on new hires and required officers to use their own cell phones on emergency calls. The latter was due to a faulty radio system at the police station, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, who took command of the department during the 10-month review. A total of 25 deficiencies were corrected in the past year, but at least eight remain, the lengthy report said. Morris County Njsp Recruit, 27, Dies At Hospital After Training Accident A New Jersey State Police recruit from Morris County died Tuesday after going unconscious during a training exercise last week. Lucas C. Homeijer, of Boonton, was participating in an active countermeasures boxing exercise with another classmate at the State Police academy in Sea Girt Borough when he went unconscious on Wednesday, Nov. 25, NJSP Superintendent Colonel Patrick J.
