Newtown Company To Close, 71 Employees To Lose Jobs A company is closing its Fairfield County plant causing 71 employees to lose their jobs. Cascades Containerboard Packaging in Newtown said in a letter to the First Selectman Jeffery Capeci, its intent to permanently close its manufacturing facility located at 1 Edmond Road, between April 12 and April 26. Titanium Plant Explosion Rocks Berks County Town An explosion at a titanium plant in Berks County on Thanksgiving Day was being probed by police. About six workers at the TIMET plant in Morgantown were leaving when the blast went off around 2:30 p.m., a Caernarvon Township officer tells PennLive. A smaller explosion had been reported earlier in the day and was believed to have been caused by a furnace, authorities told various news outlets. No injuries were reported.

Dust Unit Fire Damages Medical Manufacturing Machinery At Stryker Complex In Mahwah UPDATE: Mahwah firefighters doused a stubborn blaze that broke out early Sunday afternoon in a pair of dust collection bins at the Stryker complex off Route 17. Township firefighters were quickly at the scene of the 12:30 p.m. blaze.  They had it knocked down within 20 minutes, but it continued to burn for another 20 minutes or so before it was out. Some machinery used to make hip and knee replacements was severely damaged.
