Bireta, 54, of Knoxville, TN, was heading north on the highway when he ran off the left side of the roadway into the median, overturned several times, and entered the southbound lanes just before 11 p.m. Monday, April 1, Virginia State Police said. Bireta's Toyota Highlander then collided with a 2019 Nissan Rogue heading south.
