It happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, May 5 in Dix Hills. The victim, Amilar Velasquez, a 37-year-old Huntington Station resident, was walking on the northbound shoulder in front of 32 West Hills Road when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at 12:13 a.m. Velasquez was transported to Huntington Hospital in critical condition. Toddler Dies After Shooting Herself In Face In Philadelphia: Police (Update) Three-year-old Kayden Barnes has died after shooting herself in the face this weekend, police in Philadelphia said. The incident happened on the 500 block of East Chelten Avenue in the city's 14th District around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, April 6, according to police.  She was transported by private vehicle to Albert Einstein Medical Center and was airlifted to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police told Daily Voice she died from her injuries on Monday, April 8.  A weapon was recovered, and a male was taken into custody for questioning.

It happened just before 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23 in Garden City. The woman, a 77-year-old, was struck on Herricks Road near Rockaway Boulevard, by a 2016 Subaru that was being driven by a 67-year-old woman, Nassau County Police said.  The driver remained at the scene.  As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Motorcyclist Critically Injured In New Milford Crash A motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash Sunday night in New Milford, authorities said. The motorcycle struck a guardrail at Monmouth Avenue after the 41-year-old rider apparently lost control while heading north on River Road shortly after 9 p.m., Police Chief Brian Clancy said. The New Milford Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition, the chief said. River Road was reopened around 11 p.m., he said.
