If you’re reading this, there’s a possibility that the electricity to power your device came from the country’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the completion of the South Fork Wind project on Thursday, March 14, capping off more than two years of construction that began in February 2022. The first wind turbine in New York’s first offshore wind farm has begun delivering power to Long Island, marking a major milestone in the state’s plans for renewable energy. On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the first offshore wind turbine at South Fork Wind, located nearly 35 miles from Montauk, began “powering up,” successfully delivering power to Long Island, Gov. Hoboken will become the first community in the state to try out a sharing program for electric scooters, Mayor Ravi S. Bhall said Thursday. The scooter share program will be similar to bicycle shares now seen in cities across the country. The Hoboken initiative will be launched on a six-month trial basis next month in partnership with Lime-S and P3GM.
