Varsity Hockey Tournament Features Strong Field Of Westchester Teams

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The local high school hockey season will kick off in style on Friday, Nov. 29 with eight Westchester County schools competing in the 2013 White Plains Thanksgiving Tournament at Ebersole Ice Rink.

The puck drops early this year as White Plains faces off at 7 a.m. against a team comprised of players from Sleepy Hollow, Irvington and Dobbs Ferry. Other area schools include The Eastchester/Tuckahoe/ Bronxville which plays at 9 a.m. on Friday. The Harvey School will face Stepinac at 11 a.m.

While the Katonah-based Harvey School plays a regular-season slate that consists mostly of Connecticut schools, head coach Tim Halewicz is looking to showcase his team’s talent in a local setting.

“We aren't taking any team lightly. I am excited for the potential to see a variety of playing levels and styles at the beginning of the season,” Halewicz said.
