WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Here we go.
Section 1 high school football teams begin the postseason this weekend.
Action starts Friday night, Oct. 25.
All told, there will be 12 games in four classes that will determine which teams advance to next week's semifinal and final games.
Section 1 is comprised of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Rockland counties.
Friday's games
Class A quarterfinals
Yorktown (5-2) at Rye (7-0), 7 p.m.
The host Garnets are rolling into the playoffs and are slight favorites in the opening round against a tough Huskers squad that has caught fire since star running back Eric Meyreles returned to the lineup after suffering an ankle injury in Week 1. Rye quarterback Andrew Livingston, throws to top receiver Tim McGraw and hands to running back Shane O'Malley.
Yorktown is led by power fullback Connor Vercruysse and running back Kris Alvarado in Yorktown's running attack. Ricky Corrado leads the defense from his defensive line spot.
Somers (6-1) at Walter Panas (6-1), 7 p.m.
Despite being the No. 1 seed, Panas has a tough matchup against the defending Section 1 Class A champion Tuskers. Both teams gave strong defenses, so this game will be determined by which team can execute its offense and score points.
John Jay-Cross River (6-1) at Ossining (5-2), 7 p.m.
Ossining quarterback Justin Davidov runs a multi-faceted offense that can score with anyone. Look for the Pride to use its potent passing game to outscore their Cross River rival.
Sleepy Hollow (6-1) at Tappan Zee (6-1), 6 p.m.
Run-pass quarterback Devin Lopez returned from a shoulder injury to lead the Horsemen to a big win over Ossining last week. Dante Ellis leads the inside running game for Sleepy. Tappan Zee moves the ball well and Sleepy has not had a consistent defense this season.
Class B semifinals
Nanuet (5-2) at Pleasantville (6-1), 7 p.m.
This is a matchup of last year's Class B semifinals won by Pleasantville but Nanuet topped the Panthers 9-6 earlier this fall. The Panthers send senior quarterback Anthony Godino, senior fullback Enrico Ruotolo and defensive standout senior James Leyden into what should be a thriller at Parkway Field.
Ardsley (5-2) at Lourdes (5-2), 7 p.m.
Arsdley's running game looks like it can make this rematch a repeat of an earlier 28-22 over Lourdes. Junior quarterback Joe Deguardia and junior wide receiver Adonis Carrasco have been connecting. George DiFiore leads the Panthers defense.
Lourdes has played in three tough games over the last three weeks and may be a bit banged up.
Class AA semifinals
Ramapo (4-3) at White Plains (6-1), 7 p.m.
Marshon Morris is the big-play threat for the host Tigers, who have had their best season in years and can contend for a Section 1 title.
Saturday's games
Class AA quarterfinals
New Rochelle (5-2) at North Rockand (5-2), 1:30 p.m.
Defending Class AA state champion New Rochelle (5-2) heads to North Rockland (5-2) for a repeat matchup after the Huguenots pulled out a 22-21 victory over the Red Raiders last week.
New Rochelle is led by running back Jonathan Forrest, a quick a powerful runner, wide receiver Tajmir Aderson and a strong defense led by lineman Corey Holder. With last week's late win a vivid memory, the Huguenots can't be overconfident. North Rockland is a bigger team overall but New Rochelle has the speed.
Scarsdale (5-2) at John Jay-East Fishkill (6-1), 6 p.m.
The Raiders could upset John Jay if they can limit mistakes and use their skilled offense to keep the ball from John Jay's power game.
Class C semifinals
Woodlands (5-2) at Dobbs Ferry (6-1), 1:30 p.m.
A battle of the lead running backs pits Dobbs Ferry big back Tim Soave against defending Section 1 Class C champion Woodlands and Tyrone Barber, who leads all area runners in yards gained this fall. Woodlands has had problems with turnovers and can make mistakes. The Eagles
Bronxville (6-1) at Rye Neck (7-0), 2:30 p.m.
The unbeaten Panthers are led by experienced senior running backs Jakob Calvini, Pedro Cueto and Ryan Morningstar and can score with any Class C team. Quarterback Tom Pipilo coordinates the Panthers offense and is a team leader.
Quarterback Will Duncan and standout two-way lineman Willyem Thoms lead the Broncos, who have a tough defense and make few mistake on either side of the ball. Bronxville's senior running back Pat Bisconti carries the load on the ground.
