NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - New Rochelle's Ray Rice, a star running back with the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, was the star of his own one-day football camp Saturday as thousands of fans filled City Park for Ray Rice Day.

Rice, who was born and raised in New Rochelle, sponsored his annual football camp that drew more than 500 boys and girls ages 7-13 and at least 2,000 fans and spectators to the Fosina Field sports complex.

"I hope they can keep up with me," Rice said as he put some of the campers through drills. "I love being out here and making them smile."

Rice was assisted by New Rochelle High School football coach Lou DiRienzo and a staff of camp counselors, including current and former New Rochelle High football players. Dozens of vendors circled the playing fields with football-related products.

Rice spends a good part of his summers in New Rochelle, where his family still lives.

"Ray loves this day and he's always got a lot of energy," said Durell Rice, Ray's brother, who plays football at Dean College. "He really likes being with the kids and meeting people."
