Harrison's Mariano Rivera Named Baseball All-Star Game MVP

HARRISON, N.Y. - New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera, a Westchester resident from Purchase, was named the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game's Most Valuable Player Tuesday at New York Mets Citi Field in Queens. Rivera  pitched a scoreless eighth inning in the American League's 3-0 victory over the National League and received a long standing ovation when he entered the game. Players from both All-Star teams stood and applauded as Rivera was left alone on the field for several minutes. The Major League Baseball career leader in saves with 638, Rivera is well-known for his charitable endeavors on behalf of children and families through his Mariano Rivera Foundation, which also addresses children’s needs through education, health and wellness, and social and economic developments in New Rochelle and his native Panama.
