Fox Lane Alums Lead SUNY Cortland To College World Series Title

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Three alumni of Fox Lane High School in Bedford helped lead SUNY Cortland's Red Dragons' baseball team to its first-ever NCAA Division III College World Series victory May 27 in Appleton, Wis.

It was the 13th College World Series appearance for the Red Dragons.

Senior pitcher Brandon Serio capped a stellar Cortland career with a complete-game 4-1 victory versus Frostburg State in the second game of the series May 23.

Since transferring to Cortland as a redshirt freshman in 2013, Serio went 22-4 for the Red Dragons, earning State University Of New York Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors in 2013 and being named to the Rawlings Division III All-America third team this season.

Fellow senior Donny Castaldo finished his Cortland career with a .339 average, five home runs and 59 runs batted in, earning All-SUNYAC first team honors in 2014.

Freshman Ralph Nuzzi chipped in with a .250 average this season.
