Thom, a senior who needed two assists to eclipse the previous record of 289 set by Dan Moore in 1990, handed out four to reach 291. Thom, who led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points and added three steals, set the single season mark of 141 assists last winter as a junior.

Peter Dinger added 10 points and Chris McVeety grabbed six rebounds to help the Tigers, who used a 9-4 scoring run in the last four minutes of the game to wrap up the close, season-opening victory.
