YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- Isabella Chin said finishing high school feels like a huge weight being lifted off her shoulders.

Chin is graduating from Yorktown High School and heading to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix in the fall.

"The term 'senioritous"'is become quite familiar but I'm trying my best to stay on track so I can finish the year successfully and happily," Chin said.  "I'm super excited to go to college and start the next chapter in my life."

Chin spent her senior year working as an intern at Support Connection, an organization that provides support for women battling cancer.

"I wanted to experience the other side of helping people and lending a shoulder to those who need it," Chin said. "The staff at Support Connection really taught me a lot about understanding people and the impact of simply lending a shoulder to someone could do for them. I thought I was just helping with planning their Annual Spring Benefit but I gained so much more that I will take and use in the future."

Getting to help people going through tough times gives Chin a "wonderful bubbly feeling," she said.

"They've helped hundreds of people and I first hand witnessed the way people who are going though tough times come in feeling not so great, and leaving with a smile ear to ear," Chin said. "Being able to help out and intern at their events and in the organization itself is so amazing and so inspiring."

Chin has a cousin who is attending Grand Canyon University and felt like she was home when she visited the school.

"I was where I truly belonged," Chin said. "I feel being able to go to college and actually starting to become an adult is a huge accomplishment in itself. In a lot of ways I've grown up but I still have a little kid left in me and seeing both sides is a huge change."
