Hen Hud's Dana Smith Named National Achievement Finalist

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Hendrick Hudson High School senior Dana M. Smith has been named a finalist in the 2015 competition for the National Achievement Scholarships, an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding black American high school students.

Smith, an outstanding artist and student, is the daughter of Leigh Fludd-Smith and Peter Smith, of Croton-on-Hudson.

All 2015 Achievement Scholarship winners are selected from the group of finalists based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments — without consideration of financial circumstances or college choice.

Beginning in late February, the National Achievement Program notifies about 800 finalists that they have been selected to receive a National Achievement Scholarship.

Two types of Achievement Scholarship awards are offered. A total of 700 National Achievement $2,500 Scholarships are awarded; and about 100 corporate-sponsored awards will be offered as well.
