The teams dedicated home games versus Peekskill to local residents in the Armed Forces, as well as local veterans.
Local military members were recognized throughout the evening.
Julian Bonilla, a CHHS alumnus and three-year varsity basketball player who joined the Army, cheered his team from the stands as the Tigers’ honorary captain of the evening. Bonilla spent three years with the Army including a tour in Afghanistan from March to November 2014.
The teams’ efforts raised more than $2,000 toward the Barry Fixler Foundation and Hope for the Warriors.
Bill Thom, varsity head coach, said the fundraiser was inspired by a family friend and U.S. Navy Seal who faced medical bills after being wounded in combat.
“We are honoring active service military, retired military and trying to raise some money for disable veterans,” Thom said.
Superintendent of Schools Edward Fuhrman expressed his support for the event.
“To have [the veterans] in our presence and be able to show them how much we appreciate how much they have given to protect us and make sure we have the lives and freedoms we enjoy here, we just can’t say enough ‘thank yous,’” he said.
