Mold had been found at the Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School. Three years ago, the Croton-Harmon district replaced roofs at all three of its schools.
During the spring, staff at the CET school found a water leak in one of the classrooms, prompting an investigation.
Schools Superintendent Edward Fuhrman said investigators found mold inside the wall and on panels near the floor, as well as what appeared to be mold on a closet wall in another room. They also found asbestos, and replaced the affected areas during the summer. After staff began complaining about health issues this fall, a second firm was brought in to double check the work. The reports are posted on the district's website and more are being developed. The district will host a panel discussion from 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the school’s multipurpose room.
