WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Westchester Jewish Community Services has appointed an autism family center coordinator to handle development of the center’s activities, facilitation of groups and consultation services for families.
Lee Englander previously had a private practice, working as a special education advocate for families of special needs children in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties.
Prior to that she held a similar position in Los Angeles County, attending individualized education program (IEP) meetings, performing classroom observations, attending parent meetings at clinics, and speaking to school districts and support groups.
Englander shifted to the advocacy field after an 18-year career in publishing industry sales. She completed a fellowship in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities at the Westchester Institute of Human Development in Valhalla, and holds a MA from the University of Iowa and a BA from Tufts University. Founded in 1943, Westchester Jewish Community Services provides comprehensive mental health, developmental disabilities, social services, home health care and community- and school-based programs on a non-sectarian basis to people of all ages, and cultural and economic backgrounds.
