Siegel Seeks Democratic Nod In Yorktown Supervisor Race

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Former Yorktown Supervisor Susan Siegel, who was elected as a Republican in 2009, hopes to seek a second term this November as a Democrat.

“I’m seeking the nomination because I believe that Yorktown voters should have a choice in November," Siegel said. "Our community is better served when voters are given the opportunity to compare and contrast competing candidates."

Siegel is long-time registered Democrat but accepted the Republican nomination in 2009. She downplayed the importance of party lines.

“Party doesn’t matter in local elections," Siegel said. "There’s no Democratic or Republican way to collect garbage."

Siegel ran for re-election as a Republican in 2011, but was defeated in the primary by current Supervisor Michael Grace. Siegel wound up running on the Yorktown Better Government and Conservative lines and secured 28 percent of the vote. Grace received 38 percent and Democratic candidate Don Peters earned 34 percent.

The former supervisor has remained active since losing the 2011 election, maintaining two websites – Citizens for an Informed Yorktown (www.ciyinfo.org) and Yorktown Better Government (www.yorktownbettergovernment.org).

Siegel said she was looking forward to meeting with the Democratic Party’s nominating committee and discussing her goals for Yorktown over the next two years.

“It’s one thing to have lofty visions. We all do," Siegel added. "What’s more important, though, is that voters be given the opportunity to determine which candidate is more likely to be successful in realizing those visions.”
