CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – An unofficial meeting about the Hudson River commercial shipping anchorage plan Wednesday appeared highly unpopular among most area residents, according to lohud.com.

The meeting, held at the village’s municipal building, allowed a number of speakers to voice their opinion on the plan, according to lohud.com, which reported that all but one spoke against the idea.

Edward Kelly, executive director of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey, told the group that the plan to allow commercial ships to drop anchor at various points between Yonkers and Kingston aims to enhance safety for ships along the river, according to lohud.com.

The public’s feelings on the anchorage plan have been essentially clear since the proposal was made public in June, according to lohud.com, which reported that locals are concerned about associated security, quality of life and environmental issues.
