CORTLANDT, N.Y. — Residents should stay off the roads, New York State Police say, as snow-melt left on the roadways Wednesday afternoon was beginning to freeze and make roads extremely slick.
"Unless people have to be out, they shouldn't be out. Road conditions are extremely slippery," said Sgt. James Kranik of the New York State Police. "The fact that the crux of this storm is hitting in rush hour is not helping the situation."
Route 9 near Annsville Circle in Cortlandt was effectively "a parking lot," as of 6 p.m., said Kranik. A sand and snowplow truck had to be called to free a trapped Croton Fire Department fire truck on Mount Airy Road that became trapped on the slippery road after responding to a call on an injured person.
The Daily Voice readers have also reported long delays on the Taconic State Parkway and other state highways.
