Man Stopped For Traffic Violation In Putnam Found With Cocaine, Marijuana

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Philipstown man was nailed by Putnam County deputies for possession of cocaine and marijuana during a routine traffic stop, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Kenneth R. Place, 25, was stopped by Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin for a traffic violation on Route 301 in the Town of Philipstown. When Irwin approached the car he could smell marijuana and found that Place was in possession of cocaine and marijuana, police said.

Place was charged with possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was processed at the Nelsonville substation and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.

If found guilty, Place faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
