CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — Officers of the Croton Fire Department were sworn in Wednesday evening, and John Munson was re-elected chief for a second one-year term.
Munson decided to continue serving as chief because he said it "felt like it was a chance to move us in the right direction."
"We're getting hit with a lot of new standards," said Munson. "It's hard to keep up with."
William C. Vlad was sworn in as first assistant chief. Matt Mansfield was elected second assistant chief but was unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Most of officers sworn in Wednesday evening brought family or friends. Croton Village Trustees Ann Gallellli did the swearing-in honors in groups. A small audience responded with applause, heckles and handshakes.
John Munson's father, Gerry Munson, was sworn in as deputy chief. John Munson is a fourth generation member of the department and third generation chief.
Gerry Munson, when asked what he felt to be sworn in under his son's leadership, sighed and said, "Pride."
