CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - Jack Mekeel of Cortlandt Manor died Monday, July 29. He was 73.
Mekeel was born Aug. 6, 1939, in Peekskill to Ira and Viola Mekeel. He attended Croton High School and upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. He was a retired member of the NYPD, Precinct 26 in Harlem where he worked for 23 years. Afterwards, he went on and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Ossining.
Mekeel is survived by his wife, Maureen of Cortlandt Manor; daughter, Mary Mekeel; son, Jack (Lisa); sister, Jill Beirne (Gus) of Brooksville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Dorothea Mekeel of Brooksville, Fla.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ira Mekeel, Jr. and Joel "Whitey" Mekeel.
Calling hours are Thursday, Aug. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Amawalk Hill Cemetery in Amawalk.
