"I always tell residents to be thoughtful of where they are walking, and if possible to make sure they are with someone," said Police Chief Anne FitzSimmons. "It's important to always be aware of your surroundings."
The woman was attacked Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., several blocks from the Metro-North train station on a path that is frequently used by commuters.
During the attack, the suspect, described as a Hispanic male wearing dark clothing, rode up on a bike from behind, grabbed the woman and took her to a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, the chief said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the chief said.
Fitzsimmons said they are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking for anyone with information to contact the department at 914-422-6200.
