After a scathing Citizen Advisory Committee report that indicated leadership was lacking, membership was waning and response times were suffering, the Croton Board of Trustees appointed the volunteer director of emergency management to head the organization. This story made our top stories of 2012.
The recent appointment came months after the Board of Trustees became aware that Croton EMS response times were suffering. A proposal was drafted in October 2011 to hire a paid EMT 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to speed up response times.
In October of 2012, Croton Director of Emergency Management Dick Nagle and other Citizen Advisory Committee members pointed to the need for strong leadership in the organization. The task force cited recruitment and retention as the organization's biggest hurdles.
Since Nagle took the reins, a recruitment and retention campaign has been drafted and should be voted on by the village board in January.
