CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Two Hendrick Hudson High School students have been named semifinalists for the 2014 National Merit Scholarship program.

The two students, Elizabeth Feller and Owen Kephart, join about 16,000 other semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship program, according to a presss release from the Hendrick Hudson School District.

"These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth about $35 million that will be offered next spring," Hendrick Hudson representatives said in the release. "To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. The Hendrick Hudson High School community extends its congratulations to both candidates and wish them luck."
