Head-On Collision in Cortlandt Leaves Lake Peekskill Man Dead

Update, 12:02 p.m. Monday: The Lake Peekskill crash victim’s name is LaMarr Barnes. He was 27-years-old, according to New York State Police.

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y.--A head-on collision on the Bear Mountain Parkway in Cortlandt has claimed the life of a 27 year old Lake Peekskill man.

State Police say the accident occurred at 6:08 p.m. Friday evening near the Locust Avenue exit. According to police,  a 2012 white Nissan Altima was traveling westbound behind an SUV that had stopped to make a left hand turn. Cops say the driver of the 2012 Nissan swerved into the eastbound lanes of the Bear Mountain Parkway to avoid a collision and then crashed head-on with a 2008 white Nissan Altima, killing the passenger in the vehicle and injuring the 24 year old female driver. Neither has been identified.

Both the passenger and driver were transported to Hudson Valley Hospital Center. The unidentified passenger was severely injured and declared dead a short time afterward. Officials say the driver is from Shrub Oak and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2012 Nissan was transported to Westchester Medical Center via EMS, according to state troopers at the scene. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say it is too early to say whether any charges will be filed.

The Bear Mountain State Parkway was closed for several hours while investigators reconstructed the accident. State Police say they are looking to the public for help.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Trooper Sean Morgan at (914)737-7171

Police are also hoping to speak with the driver of the SUV who fled the scene, they say.
