Fire Consumes Cortlandt Manor Home

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – A fire consumed a Lake Road home early Wednesday morning. New York State Police say the blaze was started in the greenhouse by a faulty heat lamp, and quickly spread to the rest of the residence.

New York State Trooper Jason Pugh said the fire was deemed accidental by the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team. A faulty electrical heat lamp located in the home’s attached greenhouse, on the east side of the home, caught fire and quickly spread to the attic.

John Halfman, 69, and Patricia Halfman, 77, were safely outside when state police and Lake Mohegan Fire Department arrived, around 3:30 a.m. The house, located at 15 Lake Road, is the third serious fire in the tri-state area in three days, after a fire started by embers consumed a home and killed five in Stamford, and a Verplanck residence was deemed unlivable after a fire.
