Crude Bomb Disabled on Westchester's North County Trailway

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Westchester County Police said they disabled an explosive device planted on the North County Trailway Tuesday afternoon along Route 9A near the Taconic Parkway in Pleasantville.

Kieran O’Leary, a spokesperson from the Westchester County Police, said they received a 911 call around noon from a resident walking along the trail who noticed the suspicious device.  Westchester County Police Officers who responded to the scene with members of the Hazardous Devices Unit, better known as the bomb squad, determined the package to be an explosive device.  The bomb squad was able to disable the bomb and render the area safe by using a water cannon.

O’Leary said the device was small and crudely made and at this point it is unknown how much damage it could have caused if it was detonated.  An investigation is ongoing.

“There’s a general investigation unit looking into who may have left this device there and why they did so,” O’Leary said.

O’Leary added that the device on the trail was located near the ramp connecting Route 9A southbound to the Taconic Parkway southbound.  The ramp was shut down for precautionary measures from around 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

All traffic along the scene has since been restored to normal.
