The land, in the hamlet of Verplanck, was purchased in a bid of $2.75 million. Because of Cortlandt's low debt, the board was able to secure a bond for part of the cost after having made a 10 percent down payment.
Town officials say the land will be used as a new operating department site for the highway, parks, sanitation and water departments as well as include a network of fields, walking paths and a handball court.
"We will sell off the other town property where these departments are currently located to offset the costs of a new garage, facility and complex" said Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi.
