Con Edison: Sing Sing Gas Leak Under Control

OSSINING, N.Y. -- A gas leak at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining Thursday was caused by loose fitting equipment, Con Edison officials said.

Con Edison and the Ossining Fire Department responded to Sing Sing at 354 Hunter St. Thursday afternoon after a report of a gas odor. The gas was detected outside of the prison, Sidney Alvarez, a spokesperson for Con Edison said.

Con Edison was able to tighten the equipment and secure the leak. They arrived on the scene at 2:36 pm. and had the leak secure by 3:13 p.m, Alvarez said.

"Everything is under control," Alvarez said.

Alvarez said Con Edison officials were still at the scene. Officials at Sing Sing, a maximum security state prison with about 1,700 inmates, declined comment.
