Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino warned the New York State Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations about the negative impacts closing the Indian Point Nuclear facility will have on the local economy on Thursday.
In his remarks, Astorino highlighted the loss of approximately 1,000 jobs, $30 million in local tax revenue, and billions of dollars in economic output.
“The closing of Indian Point will have very serious ramifications for the local community, the county, and the region for generations to come,” Astorino said in his testimony. “We have to get the next steps right, and that cannot be done by three men in a room. It requires real community involvement.”
Astorino asked for the state to commission an economic report on the economic impact of closing the plant.
