Mike Makuch, a production associate for Historic Hudson Valley, picked a huge display of illuminated flowers at the Van Cortlandt Manor site as a brilliant backdrop for his surprise proposal to girlfriend Becca Caldarella, lohud.com reported.

Makuch’s elaborate plans almost fell through due to Caldarella’s feeling under the weather, and the rain itself, but he was able to pop the question with a bouquet of handmade and real flowers, and, of course, the ring, the lohud.com story said.

Caldarella said 'yes' and the couple plan to marry next year, lohud.com reported.
