What To Do In Cortlandt This Weekend

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Here are some of the fun things happening in the Peekskill and Cortlandt areas this Cinco de Mayo weekend:

Friday, May 3

Spaghetti Dinner by Ladies Auxiliary of the Buchanan Engine Co., #1 Inc. 5 to 8 p.m. Dinner includes salad, spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, dessert, soda and water. Adults are $10; children under 12 are $5; seniors over 65 are $7, kids under 5 are free. 3159 Albany Post Road, Buchanan.

Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School Musical, "Guys and Dolls Jr.": 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $5 and are available at the door. Croton Harmon High School Auditorium, 36 Old Post Road South, Croton-on-Hudson.

Orlando Marin: 7:30 p.m. Marin, a contemporary of such greats as Tito Puente, Machito and Tito Rodriguez, is the only orchestra leader from New York?s golden era of mambo who still performs regularly. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.

Shorty King's Clubhouse: 9:30 p.m. The band plays as if they were rocking and jumping with Louis Jordan, Ray Charles, Louis Prima and more. They throw in three- and four-part harmonies, jazz and a smattering of rockabilly and New Orleans sounds. Admission is a $5 entertainment fee for all, including diners. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St., Peekskill.

Saturday, May 4

Melvin T. Bolden Fishing Derby: 9 a.m. The event is open to Peekskill youth ages 14 and under. The event is broken down into three age groups, and prizes are given out for the largest fish caught and the most fish caught. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. It starts from 9 a.m. and finishes around 11. Food is served at 11:30 a.m. There is a $5 registration fee. Depew Park, Peekskill.

Saint Augustine’s Episcopal Church 5K Run/Walk to Squash Hunger: 9 a.m. Race proceeds will benefit the Cortlandt Emergency Food Bank. Race registration and start/finish line will be at Senasqua Park, Elliot Way, Croton-on-Hudson. Awards will be given for the top three racers overall and for first place in each age group. All participants are asked to bring one nonperishable food item for the Cortlandt Emergency Food Bank. Race day registration is $25 and takes place at 8 a.m.

Adam Larson Quintet: 7:30 p.m. The quintet has performed at the Jazz Gallery, the Blue Note, Smalls, Cornelia St Café, the Kitano, JALC and several others. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St., Peekskill.

Stax of Soul: 9:30 p.m. Stax of Soul performs the sweet Soul music of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Sam and Dave, Booker T & the MGs, to name a few. Table seating is guaranteed for dinner patrons only. Diners keep their tables for the duration of the performance. Admission is a $12 entertainment fee, or $6 with a dinner entree. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St. Peekskill.

Peekskill Cinco De Mayo: 2 to 11 p.m. The Downtown Peekskill BID and city eateries will be hosting a street party for Cinco de Mayo with music, games and other entertainment. Downtown Gazebo, N. Division St., Peekskill.

Croton Academy of Arts Open Mic Night: 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $5. Croton Academy of Arts, 8 - B Old Post Road S., Croton-on-Hudson

Sunday, May 5

HVHC Art of Having a Baby Maternity Fair: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thinking about having a baby? Attend free workshops, maternity tours, fashion shows, belly painting, safety workshop, dozens of vendors and much more. Hudson Valley Hospital Center, 1980 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor.

An Afternoon of Chamber Music: 2 p.m. Eighteen performers offer a collection of works, new and old, for a variety of winds, strings and voice. Croton’s own Senasqua Wind Quintet is joined by three additional players for the largest work of the program, Gounod’s Petite Symphonie for winds. The Senasqua Quintet will also be presenting Milhaud’s delightful suite La Cheminée du Roi René. Admission is free. The Croton Council of the Arts will host a reception after the concert. Croton Free Library,  171 Cleveland Ave., Croton-on-Hudson.
