Senior Cassandra Cavalieri has been selected to perform in the mixed chorus (soprano), junior Ellen Gruber was selected to perform oboe with the symphony orchestra and senior Katie Johnson was selected as an alternate alto. Cavalieri was also named an alternate bassoonist.

Talented high school musicians prepare all year long to be rated on their NYSSMA solos, a process in which a student performs for an official NYSSMA adjudicator. Only students receiving a perfect score on a Level 6 solo – the highest level – are recommended for the NYSSMA All-State Conference.

The three Hen Hud students will travel to Rochester to perform with the best high school musicians from across New York State. They will rehearse day and night under the direction of renowned conductors, then perform a concert in one of the most exquisite performances spaces in the world, The Eastman Kodak Theater at the University of Rochester.

“It’s exciting every year to bring our amazingly talented Hen Hud students to All State,” said Erica Denier, director of Choral Music . “This will be the seventh year in a row I’ve gone to the NYSSMA Conference, and every year, as I watch our students up on that beautiful stage, making music with the best of the best, and working under the talented hands of renowned conductors, I am always moved to tears.”

“I am so pleased to teach in a district that fully supports the arts and happily provides our students with these incredible opportunities,” she continued.

The conference will be held Dec. 3 through Dec. 6.
