The injuries and damage occurred on Friday, Nov. 13, in the nighttime, after West Haven Police allegedly witnessed a drug deal and attempted to pull over the suspected dealer in his car.

Daris Best was arrested on the charges of possession of a controlled substance (3 counts), possession with intent to sell narcotics (2 counts), possession of drug paraphernalia, assault on a police officer, interfering with police, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief (2 counts), and a “host” of motor vehicle charges, police said.

Undercover police said they witnessed crimes while staking out an apartment complex parking lot where they had received complaints about drug deals earlier.

Police allegedly saw Best in a white sedan make a suspected drug sale with an unknown person living in the apartments, police said. Best left, but was pulled over by police a short distance away, police said.

While officers were investigating around Best’s vehicle, Best allegedly attempted to flee and rammed his car into several police cruisers and officers on-foot, police said. He did not get far.

After a struggle, police were able to remove Best from the vehicle and arrest him, police said.

Upon further investigation of Best’s vehicle, police allegedly found:

- 14 grams of crack packaged for sale,

- 6 grams of heroin/fentanyl mixture packaged for sale,

- About $2,000 in cash, police said.

Among the officers who responded to the incident, two were treated for minor injuries, police said.

Bond was set for Best at $150,000. He posted bail, police said and is expected to appear in Milford Superior Court, police said.
