Dark Star Orchestra Channels The Dead

Good news, Grateful Dead fans, your beloved band's classic music lives on, posthumously, and turns up locally, to ring in the New Year, courtesy of Dark Star Orchestra, a tribute band who perform the Dead's extensive song catalog. Dark Star Orchestra brings the Dead's revived magic to Bridgeport's Klein Memorial Auditorium on Dec. 30 and 31, in two blowout holiday performances. Rolling Stone Magazine lauded Dark Star's "fanatical attention to detail" and The Washington Post recognized them as, "The hottest Grateful Dead tribute act. A cover band for people who don't like cover bands."

In their Klein concert, Dark Star will start off the evening's song lineup with a special set of handpicked covers, hommage to a wide range of exciting artists. Then, two sets of Grateful Dead favorites follow.According to the Band's website, the aforementioned "fanatical attention to detail" includes carefully assembling the key ingredients of the original context of performances, including how each song was performed. Archivists, apparently, as well as musicians, Dark Star members research and recreate the stage positions, vocal arrangements, specific musical equipment and instruments to recall the era of the show they are performing. "Following each performance the band announces the date and venue of the original performance. Dark Star Orchestra could dip into any incarnation of the Dead at any of their shows, allowing fans to experience shows that happened long before they were born," their site explains. New fan or old fan, Dark Star Orchestra's expertise as performers and as interpreters of The Grateful Dead, will give you two great music shows in one. Their concerts are scheduled for Thurs. Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. and Fri. Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $39-$75. For more information, visit the Klein's website.
