Pocantico Hills $28 Million Budget Vote is Tuesday

POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. – Residents in the Pocantico Hills Central School District will vote on a proposed $28.64 million budget Tuesday that would decrease taxes by 1.08 percent for Mount Pleasant residents and 2.18 percent for Greenburgh residents.

The board of education also is proposing to increase its tax certiorari fund to $3 million from $1 million in anticipation of upcoming refunds, as well as putting aside $300,000 for school building repairs.

The decision to increase the tax certiorari fund will exceed the tax cap limit, so voters will need to approve the measure.

“The majority of Pocantico Hills School District taxes come through taxing commercial property, and it is critical that monies are set aside to pay for future tax refund claims that the owners make on these properties,” the school district said in a press release.

School Board President John Conrad cited two reasons why the board was able to maintain its programs and decrease taxes. The first, he said, was that staff and administration have worked hard to ensure programs meet the needs of students while running as efficiently as possible.

The second reason is an increased assessment for the New York City Water Filtration Plant in Mount Pleasant.

“We are very pleased to maintain all program, put aside funds for tax certiorari refunds and necessary repairs to our school building and return monies to our residents through reduced tax rates,” Conrad said.
