Police Investigate Swimming Accident At Croton Point Park

CROTON, N.Y. -- Westchester County Police are investigating an incident that led to a 23-year-old Rockland County man being found unconscious but alive at Croton Point Park Tuesday

The man reportedly was swimming at Croton Point Park with six other people after anchoring a 21-foot Stingray boat Tuesday afternoon, Westchester County Police said. Just before 5 p.m,. the man's friends discovered him lying face down in the water and called for help. The man was transported to Westchester Medical Center in serious but stable condition, police said.

"The water was deeper when the group first arrived, but because of low tide the depth was down to just three or four feet at the time the incident occurred," said County Police Spokesperson Kieran O'Leary. "It is unclear whether he dove in or jumped in feet first. A short time later, his friends saw him floating face down in the water. They pulled him back into the boat, called 911, began CPR and brought him to shore."

Westchester County Park Rangers and fire and EMS personnel from Croton-on-Hudson continued CPR and medical care, O'Leary said in an email to The Daily Voice. O'Leary said he did not have an update on the man's condition Thursday. The incident is being investigated by Westchester County Police.
