County Police reported that the officer who was injured was parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane of the parkway near the Ashford Avenue ramp when his patrol car was rear-ended by a drunk driver who went off the road at 2:44 a.m. on Wednesday.

The injured officer, David Sanchez, was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with neck and back injuries. He is still undergoing tests and will likely be admitted.

The driver, Thomas Card, 41, of Ludlow Drive in New Castle, was uncooperative and combative with officers when they went to place him under arrest, police said. He was charged with DWI, misdemeanor, resisting arrest, misdemeanor and disorderly conduct, according to Westchester County Police spokesperson Kieran O'Leary.

Also in the patrol vehicle was Sanchez’s patrol dog, Sal. Sal is a narcotics detection canine, or a so-called drug sniffing dog.  Sal was taken to a vet to be examined and was found to have no serious injuries from the crash.

Card will be arraigned Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Dobbs Ferry Village Court.
