Man, 25, Charged With Assault, Menacing By Cortlandt State Police

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- New York State Police charged a Lake Peekskill man with multiple counts following a domestic incident in Putnam Valley on Tuesday, May 20, officials said.

Troopers received a walk-in complaint alleging that William A. Kivel, 25, assaulted the female victim, took her cell phone preventing her from calling the police, and threatened to kill her and himself with a rifle, State Police said. 

Kivel was arrested later in the evening and charged with third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal obstruction of breathing, according to State Police. 

Kivel was remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, June 5, officials said.
