Cortlandt Man, 21, Charged In August Assault

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks charged a local man on Sunday, Oct. 19, in connection to an assault that took place in Verplanck in August, officials said.

Joseph Velders, 21, of Cortlandt, was in Steamboat Riverfront Park on the night of Aug. 4 and was accused of punching another man in the face, causing injury, police said.

Velders was charged with third-degree assault and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Oct. 24, police said.
