MILLBROOK, N.Y. - Emanuel Uva of Millbrook, former longtime resident of Buchanan, died Tuesday, Dec. 3. He was 94.
Uva was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Verplank, son of Samuel and Mary (Ianuzzi) Uva. He retired from Teamsters Union 445 after 45 years driving large trucks, having earned the Golden Alert Safety award in recognition of 27 years of superior overall driving performance. He served in the U.S. Army, 178th Field Artillery Battalion from 1941 to 1945 reaching the rank of Technician 5th Grade. During his service, he earned the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque, the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the American Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Uva was a parishioner of St. Christopher's Church in Buchanan, and was a member and volunteer for the Buchanan Senior Citizens.
Uva is survived by his wife, Regina (Bocchino) Uva; son, Joe (Susan) Uva of Monmouth Beach, N.J.; daughter, Jean M. (Joseph) Rist of Poughkeepsie; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Alex, Louis, and Ralph Uva; and sister, Helen Tandy.
Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clinton Funeral Home, Cor. of Parrott & Pine Sts., 21 Parrott St., Cold Spring, NY 10516. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair St., Cold Spring, followed by interment in Cold Spring Cemetery.
