CORTLANDT, N.Y. – Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi issued a statement Tuesday on the death of U.S. Army Capt. Clayton Carpenter, 31, of Cortlandt Manor, who died in a helicopter training accident on Jan. 15.
"We are all very saddened about the tragic loss of Clayton Carpenter, who was a Captain in the U.S. Army, who resided in Cortlandt with his family.
"He passed away in a helicopter training accident and will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Clayton was an honorable, dedicated and very patriotic young man who graduated with honors from Lakeland High School and from the West Point Academy.
"Clayton Carpenter had severed his country in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and he will always remain in our hearts as a wonderful young man, an outstanding citizen, a member of the U.S. Army and as a hero.
"In our Cortlandt community we will never forget Clayton and will always hold him up as a role model for our youth."
