Protestors Chant 'Shame' At Westchester's Percoco, Ex-Cuomo Aide

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. --  Chants of "shame" greeted Westchester resident Joseph Percoco, a former top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as Percoco left a Manhattan federal court hearing Thursday by a group of upstate residents upset over a power plant being built in their area, according to the New York Post.

The South Salem resident is accused of taking more than $300,000 in bribes from Competitive Power Ventures, the company that is building the Orange County plan in the town of Wawayanda

The shouting protestors accused the current Madison Square Garden executive of endangering their children and the town by colluding with CPV executives to win the bid for the plant, the Post added.

The charges against Percoco, the former executive deputy secretary to Cuomo, stem from two separate but overlapping schemes involving bribery, corruption, and fraud in the award of hundreds of millions of dollars in New York State contracts and other official state actions, the federal complaint against him alleges.

Percoco is alleged to have accepted more than $315,000 in bribes between 2012 and 2016 in return for taking official state action to benefit CPV and COR Development, a Syracuse-based real estate developer that received several large state economic development projects.

The bribes from both, which also included $90,000 a year payments to Percoco's wife, were arranged by Todd Howe, another former aide and close friend of Cuomo's, the complaint said.

A trial date has been set for Oct. 30.
