Pipeline Expansion To Be Discussed In Montrose Forum

MONTROSE, N.Y. -- Opponents of the controversial expansion of the Algonquin Gas Pipeline will hold a forum to discuss the plan on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hendrick Hudson Library in Montrose.

Information will be presented by independent experts who will discuss pipelines, emissions and health impacts from pipeline projects.

Panel members at the meeting include the following:

  • Wilma Subra, president, Subra Company; Former vice chair of EPA National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology.
  • Richard Kuprewicz, president, Accufacts Inc., an energy consulting firm based in Washington State.
  • Matthew Walker, community outreach coordinator, Clean Air Council.
  • Gary Shaw, founder, Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition

Spectra Energy, based in Texas has proposed replacing the existing 26-inch-diameter pipe sections with 42-inch pipe, tunneling in a new section under the Hudson River and bolstering compressor stations in Stony Point and Southeast, according to a LoHud.com article.
