CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N. Y. -- An unidentified 58-year-old Montrose man was killed after his car went down a ravine then struck a tree early Thursday morning, according to lohud.com

Police are still investigating what caused the BMW sedan to leave the road and drive through guard rails along Route 9 at the Croton Point Avenue exit. The accident happened at around 12:45 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene, lohud.com reported.

The Route 9 exit ramp was closed after the accident, and didn't reopen until just before dawn.
