Ronal Danilo Sandoval-Campos of Purdys was found guilty on eight counts related to sex crimes in 2016, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced on Tuesday.

At approximately midnight on June 3, 2016, Sandoval-Campos broke into a Mount Kisco home and climbed on top of a 42-year-old sleeping woman, sexually attacking her, according to the indictment. During the struggle, she took a gray baseball hat off his head as he was fleeing the scene.

On Aug. 21 that year, a 19-year-old arrived at the Purdys Metro-North station at approximately 8 a.m. As she walked through the station, she was approached by Sandoval-Campos, who attempted to speak with her. She ignored him, walking toward a footpath that leads to Route 116.

Sandoval-Campos grabbed the teenager as she reached the footpath, restrained her on the ground, groping her and attempting to take her clothes off while exposing himself. A passerby heard her screaming and prevented her rape, Scarpino said. While he was fleeing, Sandoval-Campos dropped an orange baseball hat that he was wearing during the attack.

DNA results conducted from each cap recovered from the crime scenes were entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) and the cases were linked to each other, establishing Sandoval-Campos as the sole suspect of both incidents. Sandoval-Campos was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016.

Sandoval-Campos was found guilty by a jury on Monday of burglary, burglary as a sexually motivated offense and two counts each of first-degree attempted rape, third-degree attempted rapes and sexual abuse.

At the conclusion of his trial, Sandoval-Campos was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18. Sandoval-Campos faces up to 30 years in state prison and must register as a sex offender when he is released.
