Man Charged With Felony in Croton Burglary

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Croton Police say they've arrested a man they believe burglarized an Olcott Avenue house in February.

Police say physical evidence at the scene linked a current prisoner of Orange County Jail to the burglary. Carlos R. Ortega was charged with one count of felony burglary and was remanded to Orange County Jail.  

In February, an Olcott Avenue resident reported to Croton Police the house had been burglarized. The resident told police jewelry, coins and a MacBook Pro computer were taken. Some of the jewelry reported stolen was recovered.

Ortega is scheduled to appear in Croton Village Court on June 13. He was arraigned  May 23.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Drug Arrest: A resident of Lark Lane reported a suspicious vehicle. Police say an investigation led to the driver, Shane N. McDonald, 18, of Mahopac, being charged with misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation. Also, Matthew D. Troccoli, 24, of Montrose, was charged with misdemeanor possession of a hypodermic instrument and two counts of misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance. McDonald was released on $100 bail, and Troccoli was remanded to Westchester County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail. The incident was reported Wednesday, just before 4 p.m.  

Pedestrian Struck by Car: Croton Police say a pedestrian was struck by a car in the Croton-Harmon train station parking lot and rushed to Westchester Medical Center by Croton Volunteer Ambulance Corps. No charges were filed against the driver. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 29.

DWI: Croton Police say a vehicle was observed crossing traffic markings on Route 9 northbound, and an investigation led to Michael T. Creegan, 22, of Croton, being charged with misdemeanor operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08. Creegan was released on $250 bail and is due in Croton Village Court on June 13. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. Sunday, May 27.

Criminal Mischief: A Truesdale Drive resident reported having her house egged overnight, and police say the resident said it was not the first occurrence. The incident was reported Wednesday, May 23.

Stolen Mailbox: Croton Police say a Beekman Avenue resident reported the mailbox was stolen overnight. The incident was reported just before 7 a.m. Thursday, May 24.
